Camp Arizona celebrates our 10 year anniversary

Aug 30, 2014

10 years ago this week, I was planning to go camping and could not find any info online about the campgrounds in Arizona. I mean, the Forest Service had some info, but no pictures and just a little synopsis of the available amenities that the campgrounds had to offer.  What did these campgrounds look like? Was the area forest? High desert? was there any good fishing nearby.  How about the scenery? You really had to take a shot in the dark to find something that might fit what you wanted.

After a while, I decided to take some pictures of the campground that I decided to go to, Aspen Campground at Woods Canyon Lake.  I don't even think I shot video back then.  I just shot images of the campground and what I though I would like to see if I was looking for a campground to go to.

The early Days of CampArizona.com

I took my my dog Sienna with me and we had a great time exploring all that the area had to offer.  When I got back from that trip, I looked online and found that the URL CampArizona.com was available so I grabbed it and began this website out of pure enjoyment of camping with my faithful companion.  You will notice our logo on the website that there is a guy and a dog camping starting a campfire.  That was really what started this whole thing and Sienna was a big part of the early stages of this website. Many of the pictures onthe site have Sienna in them. The logo represents us on all of our camping trips together. Simple and honest. That's what we did on our trips.   Sienna passed a few years ago and will be missed by all that knew her.  In her memory, she will always be a part of the logo.

Well, ten years have passed since those early trips and discovering all that our great state has to offer.  Week long camping trips turned into many miles traveling along washboard dirt roads and wonderful places discovered. Each mile still has it's own feel and memory for me.

We now have several hundred campgrounds on the site and most of the popular campgrounds you can even see 360 degree campgrounds of each campsite.  Heck, we even get the random call every so often from FOX 10 Morning show to do a camping spot now and then. So a big thanks to them for that.  A big thanks to the Warren over at Recreation Resource Management for letting us have access to the campgrounds before they opened last year to get all of those 360 degree campsite panoramas. A huge shout out to Trisha at Recreation Resource Management of America for all of her help up in the White Mountains and the Rim Area over the years, of answering Facebook messages late into the night when I needed some bizarre question answered or a tidbit of info to add to the site. I would also like to thank the Forest Service for all of your input and hard work you do to keep our forests healthy and open to campers like those who use this site. Props to you.

Most of all, I would like to thank all of you who have used the site to possibly find a new place to camp or go explore and those of you who sent me emails just trying to find an answer to whatever your question might be. I truly enjoy trying to find those answers for you. I thank those who have posted comments over the years with your insight good or bad. Those comments help other make choices of places to go camping.  It has been my pleasure to meet many of you along the way. You have all help me make this into the best camping website that anyone could ask for and I could not have done this without your help.

Here is looking forward to the next ten years, no longer with Sienna, who will always be missed,  but now with my beautiful daughter who I can only hope has as much love, respect and enjoyment for the outdoors when she grows up as I do.

Cheers,
Chris Fabri
