Clints
Well Campground is located just a hop skip and
a jump from the town with the same name. Clints Well Campground
makes for a good place to camp if you want to check out
the north side of the Mogollon Rim Region. Several small
lakes are within a couple dozen miles including Blue Ridge
Reservoir for those of you who are fishing folk. For a
fishing and hiking challenge, try the West Clear Creek
Wilderness which requires a hike down into the canyon
with spectacular views of 800' cliffs. The water runs
cold and the fish can get fat and sassy. To reach the
wilderness travel south on S.R. 87 to F.R. 142 take a
right at the forest road and take any of the forest roads
marked 142B 142C 142D 142E 142F or F.R. 611. head north
to the canyon. Most of the roads reqiure a high clearance
vehicle. Be prepared and bring water and other backpacking
essentials if you decide to descend into the canyon. Watch
for flash flood warnings also. The town of Clints Well
has a general store a gas station and a restaurant.
Directions
From
Payson travel north on S.R. 87 to Clints Well. Turn left
at Lake Mary Road (Forest Highway 3) to the campground.
From
Winslow, drive south on S.R. 87 to Clints Well and turn
right on Lake Mary Road (Forest Highway 3) to the campground.
From
Flagstaff, drive southeast on Lake Mary Road to Clints Well.
The campground is just before you hit Clints Well.
