  Promontory Butte is probably the most desirable place to view the panorama of forest below the Mogollon Rim.

General Notes:
  • Forest Road 76B is recommended for high-clearance vehicles only.
  • The trail connects to the Highline Trail.

Directions:

1. From the north - Take Forest Road 34 to Forest Road 300 and turn right; continue on Forest Road 300 to intersection with Forest Road 76 and then turn left; follow Forest Road 76 until it intersects with Forest Road 76B and then turn right to to the end of the road.

2. From the south - Take State Highway 260 to Forest Road 300 and follow Forest Road 300 until it intersects Forest Road 76; turn left on Forest Road 76 and proceed to Forest Road 76B and then turn right to the end of the road.

Day Hiking

Promontory Butte is probably the most desirable place to view the panorama of forest below the Mogollon Rim. The trail at the end of Forest Road 76B is marked with a pile of rocks and drops very steeply off of the Rim.
