The Lewis Canyon Group Campground comes packed with things to do for larger groups. Unfortunately, it sits dead smack in the middle of where the Rodeo-Chedeski fire ran its course in the summer of 2002. The trees inside the main loop are still green but outside of the loop, most of the trees were burned during the fire. With a little time this campground should make a nice recovery.

Amenities at Lewis Canyon are:

  • A large baseball diamond complete with backstop
  • 2 horseshoe pits
  • 4 large BBQ grills (group size)
  • Dumpsters

There are several trails leading into the surrounding forest including a 14 mile (trail #640) and 7 mile trail. Both are limited to horses, non-motorized vehicles, mountain bikes and hikers. Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance by calling (928) 368-5111.

Directions

From Show Low head west on U.S. Highway 260 for 14 miles. Turn south on FR 130 and drive for 2.3 miles to Junction 130A. Turn right to enter the campground.
